Mr. Baldman’s Totally ’90s Trivia Is Finally Here

I’ve been waiting since March to write this.

Today is August 1, 2026, and Mr. Baldman’s Totally ’90s Trivia is officially finished and available.

When I started working on this book five months ago, I thought it would be a fun little collection of questions about the 1990s. I figured I would write about the music, movies, television shows, and toys people remembered, put it all together, and be done.

That was hilarious.

The deeper I went, the more the book grew. One question reminded me of another song. That song reminded me of a movie. That movie led to a toy, a commercial, a video game, or some completely random thing we all experienced but hadn’t thought about in thirty years.

Eventually, my fun little project became a book containing more than 500 trivia questions and facts covering ’90s music, blockbuster movies, must-see television, kids’ cartoons, toys, video games, early internet technology, sports, snacks, commercials, and the major headlines that defined the decade.

I grew up in the ’90s, so this book is incredibly personal to me.

I remember riding bikes and skateboards with friends, listening to the 5 O’Clock Disc Drive on TAO, trading baseball cards, waiting for a favorite song to come on the radio, and experiencing a time when the internet still made horrible screeching noises before allowing you to check your email.

You couldn’t immediately stream any movie, song, or television show you wanted.

Sometimes you waited all day for one music video (back when they still played them).

Sometimes the movie you wanted was already rented at the video store. Sometimes your Tamagotchi died because you had to go to school.

We survived.

Writing this book brought back memories I hadn’t thought about in years. I didn’t want it to feel like a cold list of names and dates. I wanted every chapter to feel like opening an old box in your closet and suddenly finding something you completely forgot you owned.

I also wanted the book to be genuinely fun.

The questions aren’t all painfully difficult facts that only one person on Earth would know. There are plenty that will immediately make you smile because you know the answer, mixed with questions that will make you stop, think, and reach back into some dusty corner of your brain.

More importantly, I wanted the answers to be correct. This is what took me the longest.

The internet is filled with "facts" that have been copied from one website to another for years without anyone stopping to check whether they are actually true.

Launch dates get mixed up... A LOT!

“First-ever” claims get repeated without evidence.

Advertising stories slowly turn into urban legends.

I didn’t want any of that in this book, and I did my best to make sure there isn't any.

By the end of the final verification process, we had searched hundreds of websites and worked through more than 500 individual source pages. We checked official chart histories, award records, company archives, museum collections, sports organizations, historical records, and original sources whenever they were available.

When two sources disagreed, I kept digging. If a claim couldn’t be confirmed, it was rewritten or removed. That process took a ridiculous amount of time, but I would rather delete a great question than publish a wrong answer.

Once the book was finished, I had another decision to make. I could release it by itself, or I could make it part of something bigger.

Choosing is hard, so I decided you shouldn’t have to.
